Is classic literature making a resurgence? While that is unlikely, TikTok is introducing new text-based TikTok posts. Text-based TikTok posts are not new, but they will be available to all users soon. That should give TikTok users more ways to diversify their content and improve engagement overall.

As Prompted

Instagram has been guilty of replicating some TikTok features, so TikTok is giving it a taste of its own medicine. TikTok is replicating Instagram’s Stories text display and calling them ‘TikTok Text Posts’. Based on official examples, TikTok’s text posts allow users to add a full screen of text. Users can then add music, stickers, and other engagement boosters. After all, text alone no longer has the same appeal as before; Social Media enjoys more colorful, interactive posts.

Users can also edit the background color of their posts, text fonts, and frame placement. Text posts can be up to 1,000 characters long, which is plentiful for grabbing attention. According to TikTok:

“Creators have been able to make content on TikTok across a variety of formats, from LIVE videos to photos, Duets to Stitch. Text is the latest addition to options for content creation, allowing creators to share their stories, poems, lyrics, and other written content on TikTok, giving creators another way to express themselves and making it even easier to create.”

It could be an interesting scroll-stop tactic, allowing even wannabe wordsmiths to build an audience. Furthermore, this is good news for camera-shy people because they would not need pictures or videos. Text posts are rather common on Instagram, despite it being the world’s top photo-sharing app. If you have not seen static poem posts with matching music at all, then you need to explore more.

This update makes text posts a more formal offering. All things considered, it expands your content posting options and considerations. Although it’s unlikely to overtake photo and video media posts, it could be a more responsive and engaging word-based format.

The Wrap

Text-based TikTok posts are available from your camera tools, which then take you to a dedicated text creation page. Users can start typing out their posts once the creation window appears. Users can also include tags and Hashtags to link to other app elements. It could be a high-utility addition, especially with Threads building traction. TikTok captions and word-based AR effects have relatively good traction on the app. Text-based TikTok posts won’t change the content meta, but it provides another way to connect with audiences in the app.
