Hosts in the making, we have some good news for all of you! YouTube is taking its next steps into podcasting, with a new test of the capacity to upload and manage podcasts within YouTube Studio. According to YouTube:

“To make it easier for creators to distribute their podcasts on YouTube, we’re running an experiment that allows you to create a podcast or set an existing playlist as a podcast within Studio.”

Those included in the experiment will be able to upload a podcast within the ‘Create’ element of YouTube Studio. Select users can also view all of their podcasts in the ‘Content’ menu under a new podcasts tab.

More Than Manage

To add to the above-mentioned, YouTube’s also testing new podcast analytics, which will provide podcast-specific performance insights, making it easier to measure your podcast content separately from your video uploads. YouTube has been gradually developing more podcast tools as it also gives the whole audio social thing a swirl.

YouTube Music now has more than 77 million paying subscribers, and while visual elements remain central to the platform’s broader offering, clearly, there’s clearly significant interest in audio-only content, too. Last August, some users reported that they had access to a new ‘podcast page’ in the app.

With many popular YouTubers now also running their own podcasts, it does make sense for YouTube to expand its horizons in this direction, providing a more comprehensive media offering for its creative talent – which also now include both short and long-form videos.

The Wrap

While it continues to move slowly in the field of podcasting, this new addition is, at least, a new step in that direction. It might not be a major consideration just yet, but it might be if the format proves to be highly sought after in the future. Since YouTube is also primarily just testing podcasts out, there’s not really much info to work with, given how customer insights are also, at present, incredibly low, if not non-existent, leaving you with a lot of guesswork in determining what works and what doesn’t with podcasts on the app.
