YouTube is known to crown the top-performing clips and creators each year, and since this one is coming to an end, YouTube also recently released the listing for the top trending videos and creators of 2022, providing everyone with a useful overview that paints a picture of how entertainment looked  this year. Along with reaping the financial rewards of moving up YouTube’s engagement ladder, being listed among its “best performing” roster speaks volumes on its own.

The Best in 2022

Let’s get the ball rolling with the top-viewed video, posted by the recently passed Minecraft gaming legend, Technoblade. The video features Techno’s father, wherein he shares his son’s farewell message before losing his fight against cancer. Techno’s video garnered more than 87 million views, a testimony to his influence and presence within the broader gaming community.

Can you guess what the second most-viewed clip was? Here’s a hint – it has something to do with the Oscars. The infamous Will-Chris slap settles for #2, followed by a video from another big YouTube gamer. Dream is a legendary name in Minecraft and has over 31 million subscribers, making him one of the most prominent YouTubers. His face reveal video has been viewed more than 47 million times since it was uploaded in October.

Trends-wise, gaming and pranking trends saw positive growth this year, while the Super Bowl halftime also managed to make it to the top 10 list. On the topic of top creators, here’s the list:

  1. MrBeast (114M subs)

  2. NichLmao (18.7 subs)

  3. Airrack (10.7M subs)

  4. Ryan Trahan (11.1M subs)

  5. Isaiah Photo (8M subs)

  6. Brent Rivera (22.3M subs)

  7. Dan Rhodes (18.8M subs)

  8. Luke Davidson (9.31M subs)

  9. CoryxKenshin (15M subs)

  10. Ian Boggs (8.07M subs)

Jimmy Donaldson, aka Mr. Beast, is probably the biggest YouTube success story in history, overtaking the previous king Pewdiepie as the most subscribed creator, spilling over his YouTube success into his other business streams, just like BeastBurger. Jimmy was even daring enough to say that he even plans to run for president, which is a pretty entertaining thought in itself.

YouTube also includes top 10 lists for emerging Shorts (Breakout) creators, as well as the Global Top Ads that aim to provide marketers with a bit of extra insight and perspective to help boost their campaign performance – though most of them would involve having to enter deals with big-name celebrities.

The Wrap

It provides a very interesting perspective on what has transpired over the years, which should help guide you toward the best trends and creators on the app to either partner up with or at least learn from. We recommend checking out YouTube’s full 2022 year-in-review here.
