YouTube recently announced new subscriber analytics with insights into why subscribers cancel their subscriptions. While subscriber cancellations are standard, knowing why subscribers opt out of their subscriptions can help your future planning. In addition, YouTube will also provide more specific insight into how new and returning viewers engage with your content.

Sub-Analytics

Let us first look at the element of new and returning viewers. YouTube added new subscriber analytics in YouTube Studio that provide separate measures for each viewer cohort. That should help creators understand what viewers are watching.

As per YouTube:

“Before the launch of this new feature, creators could only see how many new or returning viewers they had, or how many views they got, from all viewers. But now, creators have the ability to see how different audience segments watch their content. This means that creators can now see how many views they got from new viewers, and compare it to the number of views from returning viewers.”

New analytics can prove helpful in content planning, doubly so if you aim to expand your audience. By knowing how many viewers come to each of your clips, you can better plan based on these visitor interests. On top of this, YouTube also has a “New and Returning Viewers” tab, providing creators with a dedicated analysis space.

These expanded sorting options will provide additional context as to what drives views within each segment. That should give you more planning context, which could be a pivotal guide in your process. YouTube also continues to expand its analytics cards, with new data cards providing more channel membership insight.

The new cards provide more context on total member counts and which videos drive more subscriptions. That marks an extra data point to understand audience behavior, allowing users to analyze what resonates in each clip. Lastly, YouTube is also adding a new card that provides context as to why people choose to cancel their memberships:

“When a member cancels their membership, they will now be asked to provide a reason for their cancellation through an optional survey. This data will be collected and displayed in a separate card on the memberships chip. By understanding the reasons why members cancel their memberships, creators can gain valuable insights into potential improvements or changes to their content or membership offerings.”

The Wrap

These new YouTube subscriber analytics could help improve your channel’s appeal with your most valuable audience. YouTube has seen success thus far with its granular approach to updates, which could have a key role in content planning. While these may not provide a heap of insights for all channels, understanding certain specifics can play a major role in maximizing content performance.
