Music is a key cultural driver. As such, it can also be a prominent vehicle for trends, memes, communities, and other types of engagement. This means that music should also be on the radar of marketers looking for new opportunities to expand their reach on social platforms – Twitter happens to just be that key medium for tapping into trending music discussion.

According to Twitter:

“Staying on top of the most popular genres and calendar moments can help you reach some of the most influential audiences on Twitter. As new music drops every week and huge cultural events dot the calendar throughout the year, there’s always a major music trend on deck.”

Twitter: The Musical

It could be worth keeping up with the latest music trends, along with considering any brand-relevant and fun angles to help add a more topical slant to your promotions. These should help make your Twitter marketing a bit more relevant and entertaining, both of which would spell wonders for your engagement.

Twitter recently released its music engagement stats, adding more context to the viability of reaching into discussions about music and the musical arts in the app. You can view everything in detail on the official post, but here are a couple of the critical findings for you to casually skim through.

As it goes, there are about 916 million Tweets about music happening on Twitter, authored by more than 21 million unique users. Similar to gaming, Twitter makes for a surprisingly good place for hosting conversations about music, allowing you to tap into a large number of music fans and enthusiasts, potentially expanding your audience reach.

Twitter also notes that users under 25 represent the highest share of music-related Tweets by age group (53%), followed by those aged between 24-34 (31%); those aged higher still contribute to the conversation, but their share is under 10%, indicating that the youth direct the talk.

Twitter ranks the top music genres by number of total authors, with Rap and Hip-Hop topping the charts at 7.30 and 7.27 million, respectively. R&B/Soul is at the bottom of the list with 2.96 million authors. Likewise, the top music moments by volume puts the ‘Grammys’ at #1, also snagging the same for top music awards shows ranked by impressions.

The Wrap

Similar to its gaming conversation report, this one provides you with nothing but straight figures that highlight the popularity of musical conversation that’s prevailing in the app. While it doesn’t host any sort of musical content, outside of sound-enabled video Tweets, the platform still serves as a hub where discussion and updates about music and music-related elements abound. It could open up a new engagement pathway for you or allow you to approach new and potential audiences.
