Mother’s Day is once again fast approaching. Happening on May 8 (US and Australia), we have only a couple of days left to make our pitch to eager Mother’s Day shoppers, potentially maximizing another set of seasonal sales.

A Day For Mothers

Fortunately, a general observation is that Mother’s Day shoppers wait until the last minute before going ham on buying suitable gifts. If you’re trying to think of ways to make that final push, then Twitter has you covered! Twitter recently shared a couple of new insights and trend notes in line with the coming event, potentially helping boost your campaigns.

Starting with tagging, Twitter has shared the top 10 most popular Mother’s Day Hashtags based on 2021 Tweet activity. They are:

  1. #MothersDay

  2. #HappyMothersDay

  3. #Win

  4. #MothersDay2021

  5. #Giveaway

  6. #MotheringSunday

  7. #GiftIdeas

  8. #FashionJewelry

  9. #Competition

  10. #Mum

Of course, the effectiveness of Hashtags on Twitter has been continuously debated, with Twitter itself recommending brands to not use them at all, at least in certain cases. If you are trying to latch onto these key search trends, then running a giveaway is by far the best option.

In terms of Tweet scheduling, Twitter says that brands should opt to share their campaign messages “two or three weeks in advance, with an extra push the week leading up to Mother’s Day for the inevitable last-minute shoppers”. If you’re already running late, then that means you have roughly a week left to try and catch up.

Lastly, Twitter shares some notes on what you should be Tweeting about heading into Mother’s Day.

  • Gift ideas for mothers, wives, grandmothers, stepmothers, and caregivers. Classic gifts include flowers and jewelry, but don’t be afraid to branch out.

  • Experiences and offers — for example, a Mother’s Day brunch or afternoon tea.

  • Mother’s Day card ideas and ways to show thanks.

  • Mother’s Day movies and entertainment.

  • Your own story — are you a mother running a business, or did your mum inspire you? Share your story for a more authentic Mother’s Day Tweet.

What’s certain is that you should at least go beyond simply Tweeting how grateful you are for your ‘Mum’. We have a finite time to be with everybody close to us, so we should express our gratitude the best we can when we can.

The Wrap

Back to performance, the time is now if you want to try out Twitter advertising before its new owner, Elon Musk, shuts it down for good. Running a campaign to at least test and see what you can get doesn’t sound like such a bad idea. Though Twitter isn’t the best platform for such, what we’re after is more versatility. If it does work out well enough, then there’s no reason to leave performance on the table, right?
