As students brace for an incoming school year, TikTok has launched yet another cybersecurity safety awareness campaign to help educate youngsters about the dangers of online interaction. Meanwhile, it has also expanded its work to help promote cybersecurity careers among under-represented communities.

Cyber Safety First!

For its new cybersecurity push, TikTok has partnered with the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) to come up with a new interactive Cybersecurity Toolkit for individuals. The toolkit includes links to a range of apps and educational resources on cybersecurity concerns, which could be a great way to encourage people to be more proactive in monitoring for potential threats. The apps could be beneficial, with the GCA highlighting some important security tools that can help in your process, including the likes of Bitwarden and the respective authenticators from either Google or Microsoft.

TikTok has also published a new, one-page overview on how people can increase their online security process. As an extension, TikTok is also looking to raise awareness of cybersecurity jobs – and in particular, the need for more diverse representation within the cybersecurity industry.

As TikTok explains:

“We believe it’s important to help bring representation into the cybersecurity industry through programs designed to diversify, educate, and empower. With over 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs unfilled across the fast-growing cybersecurity sector, TikTok is championing a new #SeeYourselfinCyber initiative from the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA).”

This new program aims to connect more people from under-represented communities to viable cybersecurity jobs, with a focus on maximizing resonance and representation with various user groups. TikTok has been working to build stronger ties with the cybersecurity sector, with it also becoming a founding sponsor of the US Cyber Games last year. TikTok also supports several cybersecurity career pushes and initiatives, with all these efforts seemingly part of a broader attempt to better integrate itself with US security officials, taking some of the heat off of its data gathering processes.

The Wrap

True enough, TikTok has also vowed to further open up access to its algorithms and moderation processes to douse rising concerns around its systems being manipulated by the Chinese Government. While TikTok has refuted these claims, lingering concerns remain – concerns that would hopefully be addressed by the platform’s efforts against cyberattacks.

By pushing its own cybersecurity initiatives, that could be a way for TikTok to soften suspicions while helping promote cybersecurity jobs and encourage greater participation.
