TikTok has been keen lately in helping people get a better understanding of the key trends that drive conversation and engagement on its platform. Though it’s not obvious at all, TikTok likes (and excels even) at making “lists”.

TikTok has announced that it’s releasing its inaugural ‘Discovery List’, which is essentially a compendium highlighting the 50 most influential creators on the platform from various communities. It showcases some of TikTok’s top voices and trendsetters. The term Inaugural itself means “marking the beginning of”, emphasizing that this list marks the potential start of something new or the next stage of TikTok immersion.

TikTok explains:

“Creators are the heart and soul of TikTok. From the pioneers driving change, to the tastemakers whipping up one-of-a-kind creations in the kitchen, to the trendsetters originating cultural moments, we’re honored that such an incredible group of creators has found a home on TikTok. That’s why we created The Discover List: our first-ever list highlighting TikTok stars who are changing the game in their respective lanes — and beyond.”

TikTok even published a new mini-site to showcase the ‘Discovery List’ and provide an overview of the featured influencers in each defined category. 50 may seem like a small number, considering that there are now over a billion users on TikTok, but 50 individuals who were able to distinguish themselves from an otherwise “cloned” community base and still manage to retain quality and relevance of content is an impressive feat on its own.

To add, you can view summaries of featured creators by tapping through their profiles as showcased within each topic. This allows users to get to know the creators better, despite some just learning about them for the very first time. This facilitates the very essence of the list in that it’s made to allow and  actually encourages people to explore and discover. The list makes for a strong discovery tool for most users, while it adds to the growing list of marketing tools made available to business profile owners. Marketers and brands will also find the ‘Discovery List’ rather useful in terms of improving engagement and securing partnerships; it’ll allow them to seek out creators who are more relevant to their channels as well as indicate suggestions on how to better streamline market reach and approach.

The Wrap

At the core, what the ‘Discovery List’ does is help you better understand TikTok. If you can improve your knowledge about the fundamentals of platform interaction, then you’ll be able to improve your knowledge when deciding how best to use the platform for business growth.

It’s an interesting overview to say the least and the addition of the list does help provide insight into some key trends and shifts, at least those that are influencer or creator driven and localized in specific communities.
