TikTok is looking to spice things up a bit during the holidays as it adds a new set of video editing features. TikTok’s already a pretty bustling platform, so the addition of extra visual elements definitely capacitates users to create more engaging, swipe-stopping clips for everyone to enjoy, especially their followers.

Get GIFFY With It

The primary addition worth noting here is the new GIF option that’ll be accessible through its Green Screen tool. The new GIFs will enable users to select from a range of GIPHY GIFs which’ll then act as their background upon selecting the ‘Green Screen’ effect.

As TikTok explains:

“Whether looking for the perfect reaction GIF or showcasing an iconic meme, GIPHY in Green Screen unlocks exciting new opportunities for creativity and storytelling.”

The GIFs could make for some increasingly creative and down right entertaining combinations. Perhaps on a more interesting note is that GIPHY, which is now Meta-owned, actually went into partnership with TikTok. Nothing really is impossible with social media.

The fact that makes this unlikely collaboration so surprising is the growing rivalry between Meta and TikTok, which is so “intense” that anybody can see that something really is off between the two. Well, more on Meta’s side, but that’s exactly why this partnership is so intriguing. You’d think that an “Arch-Nemesis” would act against helping a its sworn-rival further expand their utility, but perhaps even Meta is convinced that maybe collaborating with the one that poses the most threat can be an opportunity.

TikTok’s also adding in a new ‘Visual Enhancement’ button, which, as the name suggests, “enhances” display quality by fixing the lighting and color tones of your clips.

“Whether uploading from your camera roll or shooting directly from TikTok, video enhancement helps save time fine-tuning video edits before publishing.”

The option serves as a sort of quick-fix, allowing you to essentially “improve” the look of your clips without having to manually edit them. In a way, it also lessens the tediousness of capture, avoiding instances of frustration. ‘Visual Enhancement’ is applied on a ‘per-upload’ basis, meaning that you’ll always have to push the button that says ‘Enhance’ if you want the effect applied.

Going a bit further, TikTok is also investing in more creative sound effects, with a new option that enables users to “make any sound or voice from their videos sound like an animal or musical instrument”. This, along with their Disney character voice options, for its renowned text-to-speech tool, makes audio-on content the potential next big trend on the platform.

Using the new sound option is similar to using ‘Visual Enhancement’ – after recording or uploading your video, just tap the ‘Voice Affects’ button and choose your desired audio effect.

Serving as icing on the cake, TikTok’s also enabling higher quality video uploads, with certain regions now able to upload videos in 1080p (FHD). The option’s technically been available to select users for several months now, but TikTok is gradually improving access to more creators.

The Wrap

These are great additions overall, doubly so for artists and creators who are very video-centric with regards to their content. At the very least, they’re highly creative additions that’s sure to keep people busy and curious throughout the holidays, possibly prompting higher adoption rates once the new year kicks in. Brands also get something, as more visual options generally meant more creative opportunities for campaigns and promos.
