TikTok has gained so much in so little time and in what can only be described as an effort to say thanks, TikTok has announced a new series of live-stream fundraisers as part of its initiatives for Thanksgiving, primarily Giving Tuesday. With that, TikTok will be allocating a generous $7 million as direct donations to various organizations.

TikTok explains:

“On GivingTuesday (November 30th), known as the world’s biggest day of generosity, we’re delighted to join hands with our global TikTok community and introduce #GivingSzn, a celebration of generosity and goodwill featuring LIVE programming from creators and non-profit organizations, including fundraisers and community-rallying moments around the world.”

A multitude of high-profile creators will be taking part in the initial event, including the likes of Matthew & RyanArturo Allendre, and Spencer West. The good news is that these headliner appearances makeup only the first stream! TikTok aims to help as many charity groups as it can before the busyness of the holiday season kicks in. As such, it will continue to host various donation events all throughout December, which definitely helps provide a significant boost to charities that will no doubt stretch their resources thin over the coming weeks.

As mentioned earlier, TikTok is ‘personally’ donating $7 million to various mission-driven organizations across the globe to “support the causes our community cares about.” TikTok goes on to expound:

“Part of the donation will be made in the name of TikTok creators globally to non-profits of their choice. We’ll also be donating $1M in ad credits to support global non-profit organizations in their end-of-year fundraising efforts.”

While on the topic of charitability, TikTok had always been known as an active contributor, aiding many charitable causes including the $250 million funding assistance to COVID frontliners and $200 thousand as part of its #CreativityForGood initiative launched earlier this year (2021). A good side-effect of TikTok’s giving is that many individual users are now hosting their own fund raisers for various organizations and causes, something made easily possible by the platform’s in-app giving tools.

The Wrap

In closing, TikTok states that:

“In 2021, almost 75,000 donations were made on TikTok in support of various organizations and causes globally such as fighting hunger, supporting humanitarian relief efforts as well as promoting health and wellbeing. TikTok creators such as @ghosthoney, @cristiandennis, and @valentinebrothers have also been at the forefront of raising awareness around some of the world’s most important issues.”

It’s quite refreshing to see a major social network be so transparent with its achievement in the field of charity. It’s quite commendable to see TikTok, especially when you consider its present fame and focus towards expanding its eCommerce capabilities, also build on its potential to ‘give back’ as it expands its business. This initiative only goes to show how far behavioral influence can go in inspiring and calling people to action.

The first TikTok LIVE ‘Global Give Back’ stream will take place on November 30th at 11am PT/ 2pm ET on the @tiktokforgood account.
