TikTok has a handy update coming. Have you ever found yourself scrolling back up on your TikTok Feed to find a video that you’ve watched previously, only to go too far and end up refreshing the Feed? Fear not, you and countless others have most likely lamented over such scenarios at least once. It’s mostly a pet peeve, but frustrations stacked up can and will take away from an otherwise enjoyable experience. For this, TikTok is introducing a solution.

Less of A Pain

In this screenshot, shared by @al_hilaal7, TikTok is currently testing a new option that would allow users to undo a Feed ‘Refresh’ if ever they make an unfortunate mistake. It’s a fairly minor functional add-on, but it could be a big help when you’re looking for a buried, specific video. Initially, it seems that this update benefits personal sharing the most, like when you want to show your mates a really funny video you watched before.

What’s more interesting, and also an oversight, is why design the Feed this way in the first place? Why couldn’t developers see this and put in the refresh function differently? It might mean a bit of extra work, but a ‘Tap to Refresh’ button would lead to fewer instances of frustration caused by accidental refreshes.

On a similar, mistake-aversion front, TikTok has also started rolling out a new feature for creators called ‘Posted Drafts’, which automatically creates a copy of your most recently posted video and stores it in your ‘Drafts’ folder in the app. User Jera Bean explained that this would make it easier to update your clips with small changes and edits, as you’ll already have a version of the uploaded clip in your drafts to tweak. Hey, that’s better than having to redo the whole thing, right?

I’m not sure how any of this would actually fit in with broader marketing trends and strategies, but on a more personal level, it could be a very notable update. It doesn’t add anything functional or remotely beneficial for promotions and tie-ins, but hey, updates don’t always need to be. This is a quality-of-life update designed to improve the TikTok experience for everyone.

The Wrap

Posted drafts will be available for 3 days after posting, so if there are any changes that you need to make, you can update, re-publish and keep it moving, even faster than before. Again, this update is not a major functional one, but looking through the lens of annoyance, it could be very helpful. Matt Navarra, of course, was able to highlight both of these new features.
