TikTok’s testing out a new feature designed to help creators further build their following by inviting their connections beyond the platform to follow their TikTok accounts and view their content, all in one fell swoop.

You’re Invited

Dan Schenker, shared by Matt Navarra posted an example of the new option. Since it’s still mainly within initial testing phases, TikTok ‘Invites’ are only currently available to a limited number of users, enabling those eligible to share their latest TikTok clips via different third-party platforms. When those on other apps and platforms tap on the embedded link, they’ll automatically follow your TikTok account, adding to both your views and follower count.

Dan also included examples of what the option would most likely appear for link recipients. In all honesty, it doesn’t appear to be that ‘out of place,’ however, especially when it comes to increasing engagement, Invites appears to be an easy method to broaden one’s TikTok audience and interact with folks you know who are on other platforms, who may or may not already be TikTok users themselves.

As it stands, the option could be a key benefit for TikTok – by enabling others to invite others who are off-platform, it ends up bringing more users back to Tik Tok, who’ll then be asked to sign-up for an account (unless they have one already) to see the clip.

While potentially huge in terms of audience growth, the new option is not flawless. There’s the risk of people over-using the option, leading to instances of spamming, with users able to effortlessly forward their clips to all of their connections on other platforms. TikTok limited this by only allowing those eligible to only be able to share with those whom they’ve already connected with on other platforms. This means that it’ll be less likely that you’d be forwarding clips to complete strangers.

One of the biggest drawbacks could be the prevalence of unwanted pushes for die-hard TikTokers looking to Launch themselves towards the peak of perceived popularity. Though it might appear a lesser concern overall, at the end of the day, it still has the potential to be ‘Problematic’

The Wrap

It might be one of the more minor-looking updates, but it also happens to be a handy way of getting more of your connections to view and interact with your content, boosting relations, especially with those who are most likely to leave you a “like”. All in all, TikTok’s new ‘Invite’ stands to improve broader performance, giving you additional considerations to include in your cross-platform marketing strategy.

Again, since it’s still mainly in testing, a clear number of those who have access is still unclear, at least as of this moment. Hopefully, once they decide to go with a broader roll-out, we get to see more of Invite in action and determine whether or not it proves to be useful.
