Ever since TikTok started growing, its popularity and the opportunities that come with it have been rising non-stop. TikTok’s culture, combined with its highly intuitive algorithms and appeal to organic content and participation has helped crown it as the most popular app, whose major market primarily consists of users aged 15 – 25.

TikTok has evidently made revolutionary impacts on the entire Social Media landscape, sparking all new trends and behaviors. Its rapid growth allows it to try out all sorts of experiments, including integrating initiatives to scale up its e-Commerce capacity. Besides what we all seem to already know, what else are the crucial TikTok statistics to be mindful of?

Be Mindful

There are a ton of TikTok insights and stats out there, but upon further analysis, we managed to deduce hundreds of figures to 10 essential statistics that you should know if you want to maximize growth on TikTok. These stats are:

#1 TikTok Currently Has More Than A Billion Users

In less than three years, TikTok managed to amass more than a billion users between 2018 and 2021; it now ranks 3rd, just behind Instagram (1.4B) and Facebook (3B+).

#2 Close to Half of All TikTokers are in China

Since its parent company, ByteDance, is Chinese, then this should come as no surprise. Though often referred to as being its sister app in foreign markets, ‘Douyin’ is actually China’s TikTok and is a major revenue driver for live shopping.

#3 The Average TikTok User Spends Around 30 Minutes Per Day on the App

Anyone who has ever used TikTok before knows that it can be addicting. With amazing algorithmic systems, TikTok can keep funneling content individually per user, meaning that time spent on TikTok is nearly half the total average that each person spends on social media daily.

#4 The 5th Non-Game App to Reach 3 Billion Downloads

Plain and simple. TikTok has become so popular that it even topped the 2021 app downloads list, according to data.ai.

#5 At Any Minute, 167 Million TikToks are Being Watched Around the World

To put this into perspective, this is about a billion videos an hour and 24 billion videos a day. That’s some ridiculous engagement.

#6 TikTok Revenue Nears $2 Billion Per Year

Primarily dependent on ad sales, TikTok generates a huge amount of revenue for its size. TikTok’s popularity has no doubt led to improved revenues due to all the clout it has gained, inviting all kinds of celebrities, investors, and endorsers.

#7 Consumer Spending on TikTok Exceeds $1 Billion

TikTok has been ramping up its commerce integrations as of late, no doubt in pursuit of the same kind of revenue growth as exemplified by its Chinese counterpart. Between 2019 and 2020, in-app consumer spending exponentially rose from $183 million to $1.3 billion.

#8 Most TikTok Users are Under 35

It’s pretty much a Gen Z app. It’s all about identity and authenticity on TikTok, which are strong points for any Gen Z-er.

#9 TikTok Produces the Highest Engagement Rates of Any Social Platform

TikTok’s core dynamic revolves around the idea of ‘contributing’ to currently trending content, like memes. This culture of participation and being the originator of what’s now known as ‘remixing’ explain why engagement on TikTok is so good and so high.

#10 TikTok’s Most-Followed Account Hase More Than 130 Million Followers

Dancer Charli D’Amelio has been crowned the TikTok Queen multiple times and rose to fame sometime late in 2020.

The Wrap

Some people tout TikTok as being the next Facebook, but to that extent, it lacks the other tools needed to be considered a full-blown social network. As it stands, TikTok is an amazing content platform with impressive reach and perhaps the best algorithms money can buy. You’d be crazy not to at least consider TikTok in your strategy. If you want to be where the people are, then go on TikTok.
