Snap recently held its 2023 Investor Day, with the headliner being that Snapchat now has 750 million monthly active users, a big jump from its already impressive 600 million just April of last year. Snap more regularly posts daily active user counts within its quarterly updates, where it currently sits at around 375 million mDAU. These monthly numbers provide more perspective on the growth and presence of the app, which now sees exactly double its daily user count overall.

Up and Up

On one hand, that means that Snap isn’t as compulsive as some other apps. In comparison, Facebook sees 67% of its total users coming back to the app every day, as opposed to Snap’s 50%. That may not be a big deal but given the way Snapchat is being used for more intimate messaging, it’s interesting that its daily usage isn’t as high. Then again, Facebook has the advantage of keeping users updated on key announcements and milestones, which is likely the primary reason why a lot of them keep coming back.

So, where is Snap seeing the most growth?

According to its Q4 numbers, Snap’s user growth in North America is flat, while it did add 4 million more daily activities in Europe in the period. Where Snap has seen the most growth, despite falling into the ‘Rest of the Word’ category, with India particularly seeing an uptick in interest.

Snap now has reportedly over 147 million users in India. As mobile phone adoption continues to rise in the nation, Snap continues to build up its presence, which should provide it with more opportunities for expansion and revenue growth in the future. However, right now, there’s a gap between revenue opportunities in both established and developing markets.

The Wrap

750 million users is a big milestone, and it’s worth noting that Snap is still gaining momentum, and expanding its footprint, which will continue to have it in a good position as it develops newer options like advanced AR tools and newer shopping experiences. Snap didn’t have the best run last year, but despite the broader economic downturn, Snap has managed to maintain its crown as the best AR-integrated platform, proving that even if you’re not the biggest, most resourced organization, you can still be the best, with the right strategies.

Lately, Snap has also been exploring expanding its reach to older audiences, which might just introduce new use cases for the app, allowing it to grow and potentially establish itself in other fields beyond AR and VR development. Snap has great potential, and if you’re looking for a versatile, wild-card-type platform, it’s well worth considering.
