Snapchat wants to help its users stay up-to-date with the latest news and updates in the app, which is why it’s launching a new ‘Dynamic Stories’ feature, essentially enabling partner publishers to link their content Feed straight into the platform. This would ensure that their latest updates are reflected through their in-app presence.

Snap explains:

“We’ve always felt a deep responsibility to highlight news and information that is credible and from trusted and clear sources. With Dynamic Stories – this new Discover format uses a partner’s RSS Feed to automatically create Stories from the content a Publisher is already creating on the web.”

Story Dynamics

So, Instead of publishers having to manually curate and update their Discovery Feed, Dynamic Stories would respond to updates as they’re uploaded, ensuring that the latest updates would reflect in the app. In short, Snapchat’s new feature gives partner publisher accounts functionality that alerts users about the latest updates and happenings in real-time.

To note:

“Whether it’s breaking news from credible sources on the war in Ukraine or the latest in pop culture or fashion, Dynamic Stories helps Snapchatters learn about the world as it happens.”

The update mainly simplifies the workflow of partner publishers, making it easier for them to stay connected with Snapchat’s 319 million daily active users. Dynamic Stories would also help improve the in-app information flow, ensuring that the latest and most updated information is shared with Snap’s audience, helping to keep them more engaged across the hottest stories and biggest news as they happen.

Snapchat has seen huge success with its ‘Discover’ content so far, with the format better aligning it with evolving trends and media consumption behaviors, particularly with shorter, more TV-like videos. Snapchat’s observed direct link with younger audiences also makes for a strong lure for its partner publishers – simplifying this will only likely further increase the appeal, though it’s common to encounter some hesitancy in relying on automated Feeds to represent their publications within the app, at least during the initial stages.

The Wrap

Snapchat reports that testing has already begun in the US, UK, France, and India. Initial partners include Axios, Bloomberg, ESPN, GQ, and more. It might just end up being an important initiative, especially since India is on the list, where Snap also happens to currently be gaining traction. If Snap can become more of a utility for news and not just as a connection tool, then that just gives users more reason to keep coming back. Simplifying the process is one key step towards that goal.
