Pinterest is looking to improve creator discovery by adding a new ‘Profiles’ tab within Pin search. The new tab is set to highlight relevant creators related to any search term. With that description, searching on Pinterest now potentially bears a profile result regardless of what keywords you use.

Pinterest Profiles

Based on their official Instagram post, the new tab is meant to help users locate specific creators, be it in searches related to specific user names or those based on topic searches and/or product categories. Placing such an emphasis on creator discovery helps improve overall creator diversity, giving additional exposure to the more underrated and possibly overlooked, yet equally capable creators on the platform.

The update enables Pinners to find the top creators for each subject, which, again, impacts their exposure and helps them further build their presence. Initially introduced last October as part of its ‘Creator Festival’ event, ‘Profiles’ is now being made available to more global users, which is expected to substantially improve the discovery potential within the app. Like all platforms, at least recently, Pinterest is also working to retain its top creative talent, keeping its best and brightest posting more often, thus maximizing user interest.

Before the announcement of the Profiles tab, Pinterest also launched its $500k Creator Fund in April of 2020, which was further expanded just last year. In October of last year, Pinterest also launched its ‘Creator Rewards’ program, which offers different incentives for creators who participate in variable challenges related to activity within the app. Creator Rewards are like the challenges that go viral on TikTok but are entitled to rewards, on top of the usual views and engagement.

Though not off to an aggressive start, which is better in certain cases, Pinterest is slowly making headway as it must be basing its progress on its 2022 Predictions Report, which, more or less, involves loads of discovery and a near-equal amount of what can only be described as ‘adaptive and conditional performance’, based off of expected and unforeseen trends that are said to gradually make its way throughout the entirety of 2022. With a pretty reliable forecast track record so far, it’ll be interesting at the very least to see how much Pinterest was able to get right, and how it responds in case the report takes too many unexpected turns.

The Wrap

Right now, every platform is competing for attention, with almost all social apps looking to provide the best rewards and incentives for the top stars of every platform. TikTok and Instagram, in particular, are making big pushes into eCommerce, which places Pinterest at risk of losing its top stars if it’s unable to compete.

Compared to its two competitors, Pinterest requires a wider set of tools and more exposure if it means to stay in the game, which, though would be difficult, should be manageable so long as at least half of their predictions hold, and that they’d be able to capitalize on instances that they have ‘expected’. This new tab will at least help connect Pinners to relevant influencers in almost any niche.
