Pinterest has launched a new ad campaign where it essentially pitches itself as the ideal complement to your Christmas gift-giving endeavors, with people’s Pin boards, or even the latest trend, providing great inspiration for great Christmas gifts.

As Pinterest explains:

“The holidays are huge on Pinterest, and this year is shaping up to be one of the biggest holiday seasons ever. We know bad gifting is universal, so Pinterest is here to help you find the perfect gift for everyone in your life. Whether it’s peeking at someone’s boards, searching for things they like, or browsing on the Today tab for ideas, there are so many ways to find gifts everyone will love on Pinterest.”

Santa’s Social Platform

Pinterest says that with over 400 million active users (~445 million), it’s well-placed to highlight the top gift trends, based on in-app search activity. While that’s certainly an impressive number, surely there’s more to this claim than sheer scale alone because if that were the case, then Meta would’ve wiped the floor with Pinterest. See, the thing with Pinterest’s 400+ million is that a lot of these people also have a presence on the platform, which helps it outline the products and trends they’re most interested in. True, Pinterest may not be as big as other social networks, but you have to remember that it doesn’t want to operate that way either, meaning that it could well be set apart from the rest, at least in this regard.

Pinterest might be the best secret weapon in your arsenal for finding the best gifts, and it’s a good campaign that will no doubt get more people at least checking out the app to see what they can find. For brands and marketers, that could also make it the place to be to have your products listed. It’s certainly worth checking out.

On top of this, Pinterest has also launched a new holiday gift guide, which is based on Zodiac signs and the perfect gifts for each.

“Whether you’re gifting a lavish Leo, charismatic Scorpio, or a sensitive Cancer, Pinterest has all of the gifting trends and ideas to discover the perfect gift.”

While astrology isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, a lot of people like it, making it a potentially great way to help people find the best gifts, by giving them a little direction in their search process.

The Wrap

Pinterest aims to be the de facto shopping center online, which perfectly ties into celebratory holidays. For Christmas, expect Pinterest activity to spike since the platform is known to be used when planning outfits, vacations, and as idea marketplaces for gifts. Going back on its superiority claim, at least when it comes to consumer trends, Pinterest can truly be the king of gifting.
