In favor of lighter news, Pinterest shares new insights on upcoming trends stemming from the easing of global pandemic conditions. As vaccine roll-outs and vaccination efforts gain momentum, many regions are looking forward to finally being able to relive pre-COVID travel behaviors.

Months of lockdowns and restrictions have surely harbored kindred spirits that long for adventure and exposure. Likewise, once avid and hopeful travelers have no doubt been able to save decent amounts of money throughout the quarantine months, greatly expanding their vacationary scope and upcoming holiday plans. It could very well be the first time in nearly 2 years that people can once again experience, at least to some extent, unrestricted domestic and even international travel.

Known for their idea-boards, Pinterest happily shares their latest data on expected and emerging travel trends. Pinterest notes that total travel-related searches across its platform are up by 19% in 2021, with searches for specific destinations down by 14% over the same period.

Pinterest explains:

“Today’s travelers are increasingly guided by passions (like hiking, food or museums) or goals (like escaping the city or chasing summer), rather than specific destinations. For example, searches for “dream vacations destinations” are up 482% year over year.”

This should give travel marketers a couple of ideas on how they could better reach out to prospective travelers with new and more enticing deals and offers. Travel marketers and agencies alike could see exponential gains in their numbers by catering to the broader, pent-up desires of people to go out and see the world once more; offering exciting and fully immersive travel packages are surefire deal-closers.

Even before these latest developments, domestic travel, in particular, has been rather popular. Part of their insights data is a map that highlights key destinations of focus among Pinners over recent months. Such information can help guide your marketing strategies and allow you to better position products and services.

A testament to the influence of Pinterest on travel-planning:

“72% of people using Pinterest to plan travel have used the platform to decide on their destination for a trip. You can get your brand in the mix by meeting people when and where they’re searching.”

The Wrap

The last 2 years have been anything but easy. Everyone by now has had a taste of the difficulties brought by COVID-19 and tourism, in particular, has suffered a very crippling blow; with multiple local airlines filing for bankruptcy and some even going out-of-business. If anything at all, new statistics and insight such as these present the much sought-after light at the end of a very long pandemic tunnel. As 2021 draws near its closing, the holiday seasons potentially mark the recovery and eventual resurgence of booming tourism.
