Pinterest has recently launched its Holiday Hub. Now, it’s looking to add even more to your holiday push by providing new insights into rising gift trends on the platform. These trends often include fashion, beauty, and gadgets. By search frequency, these are the top Pins that gain traction on the app.

Since Pinterest gained popularity as an ‘idea site’, with Pinboards being a distinct and defining element, the main niche of Pinterest lies in its hosting of highly personalized and influential content. Among DIY and Arts & Crafts enthusiasts, Pinterest is a major go-to, which also helps marketers determine who are the people then can and should target in-line with expected holiday trends.

On that note, the big focus for Pinterest, unsurprisingly, is fashion and beauty. What is interesting is that their latest data shows that ‘Fairy Grunge’ is what’s hot this year. If you want an idea of what that looks like, here are a couple of sample Pins.

Pinterest also notes:

“Gen Z is all about aesthetics – Trending aesthetics among Gen Z for the holiday is fairy grunge (362x), which includes whimsical elements such as beaded necklaces and gothic styles.

Pinterest says that black platform boots are on the rise, and so are searches for ‘Goblincore Sweatshirt’. So far, these trends point to users being in on fantasy and mysticism, well, “inspired by-” sounds more appropriate.

The next searches are more relatable, with searches for ‘cozy sweater vest’ and ‘silky roomwear’ also gaining notable traction.

The work from home trend seems to also translate to mainstream fashion; with people unable to go out and dress up like they normally did, even if it was only wfor work, people now are looking to get even more comfortable, or in this case more fashionable, around the home. This is evident with Gen-X, as more of them are looking into high-end fashion items with searches for ‘Luxury Headbands’ up by 4 times the normal, and ‘Men’s Luxury Watches’ by 3. We get it though, who wouldn’t want to be flexin’ their brand new, shiny Rolex around, right?

On the other end of the spectrum, Baby Boomers are instead increasing searches for ‘Faux Leather Skirts’ and ‘Antique Gold Jewelry’. Yes, quite an interesting mix of item categories, all the more beneficial for those who have diverse catalogues as you can potentially hit 2 or more audience profiles.

When it comes to beauty trends, younger consumers are searching up retro 70’s makeup, with Millenials specifically looking into ‘Soft Glam’ for makeup ideas.

Gen Z’s seem to be quite keen on homeware, with searches for ‘Earthy Aesthetic’ being a particular focus for this year. ‘Cozy Farmhouse Ideas’ are also up by as much as 200 times. Gen X prefer ‘Minimalist’ decors, while Boomers are looking into ‘Electric But Vintage Lighting’. Truly, Pinterest is a Walmart of ideas.

To close, Pinterest notes that searches for gadgets and tech products are up by 45%, with an emphasis on ‘Cool Gaming Rooms’ and ‘House Gadgets’.

All in all, it’s a fair lineup of multiple consumer items that are indicative of broader interests that could potentially help you better position or at least more effectively identify those you should target for your holiday marketing. Though Pinterest is an active social media platform year-round, it gains immense seasonal traffic during major holidays and seasons, making it a perfect channel to help plan your holiday marketing initiatives.
