This could help Pinterest marketers maximize their performance over the coming holiday season. Pinterest has officially launched real-time analytics elements within Pin analytics on mobile, which will provide more data on how your Pins are exactly performing at any given time.

Given the latent nature of analytics, introducing a different ‘variant’ of analytics that reacts in real-time with changing user behaviors can give marketers a slight advantage over their competitors, provided they know how to translate the findings into effective strategies.

As Of Now

Based on some sample shots shared by user Yasser Masood, Pinterest is alerting its users to the upgrade in the mobile app. Real-time insights are now also available in the web analytics platform, but now, you’ll be able to access much of the same data on the go, which might sound more appealing to more people anyway. In case it’s not already apparent, having access to real-time insight is a huge bonus over those who rely on point and time-based access.

Pinterest does note that real-time insights are not available for audience metrics such as ‘Total Engaged Monthly Audience’ and ‘Age and Gender’ filters. Fortunately, you’ll still be able to see the overall data about the response to your Pins each time that you log in, which could end up being a helpful guide for your Pin Strategy.

However, along with the benefits, this could also lead to over-optimization, tweaking campaigns even before they have the chance to get moving. This has been one of the key concerns with any project that has to do with real-time insights, often leading to knee-jerk reactions. Then again, it could actually impact overall performance by not allowing uploads to gain traction for a limited amount of time – a ‘Handicap’ if you will. Likewise, the same concern can also be used to the effect of not allowing the platform’s systems to optimize for performance.

The Wrap

If you can resist the urge to press your optimization clean before even starting, then these could yet become valuable guide notes for your strategy and planning, which could help you make more informed decisions concerning your Pin process.

Again, even though analytics themselves are not new concepts, formats that include real-time analytics are few and far in between. As such, if Pinterest is successful with its implementation, then it’s looking at an element that might just help secure its relevance for the future, at least well into the next couple of years. That being said, there still isn’t much that provides us with clear benchmarks as to how effective real-time insights are. Hopefully, this latest development helps make things a little clearer which, in turn, would provide marketers with more opportunities to maximize their efforts.
