Excitement about prom week is ramping up! (Well, if you’re still in high school, probably) Pinterest just announced a new program to help users find prom inspiration, partnering with actress Peyton List, and showcasing some of the top prom fashions of the season.

As Pinterest explains:

“Beginning April 4th, Pinterest will be hosting Prom Week, an immersive and engaging in-product experience filled with all of the latest prom fashion and beauty trends. In addition to Peyton, Pinterest tapped publishers like Teen Vogue as well as some of the biggest names in beauty and fashion to create ideas that will inspire your best Prom looks.”

Primed For Prom

Pinterest has also linked up with a range of fashion experts for its prom push and will include tips on the latest nail and hair trends, along with the top looks and threads, inspired by Pin search behavior. On that note, what are the key trends of prom season?

Looking at Pinterest’s data, we note two key inspirations – ‘The Great Gatsby’ and the hit TV show ‘Euphoria’, which has quickly become an inclusive fashion leader. Other statistical observations include:

  • Searches for ‘non-binary prom outfits’ are up 13X

  • Searches for ‘Euphoria themed party outfits’ are up 19X

  • Searches for ‘Great Gatsby prom dresses’ are up 7X

When it comes to standout colors, Light Blue, Lilac, and Black are the key shades of the season. Searches for Neon colors have also been increasing, which isn’t too surprising since Neon has always been part of trending color palettes since time immemorial.

It’ll be interesting to see how students take to prom after two years of heavily fragmented celebrations (if you would even call it that), it could be an epic season, especially since restrictions are slowly easing up. For most of us growing up, prom was a key rite of passage. Hopefully, it becomes so again as we all head back to normalcy.

The Wrap

As with all things Pinterest, these are some noteworthy trends to try and tap into for your marketing efforts around the event. Also worth considering are other trend insights from Pinterest, especially if you’re looking to make it a key platform for connecting with interested browsers that are looking for key elements to perfect their prom look.

Beyond prom, Pinterest makes for a good all-around platform, extremely versatile in its setups and targeting. If you can learn to capitalize on Pinterest’s key quirks, then you may yet be able to maximize the opportunities on the platform.
