After originally launching its ‘Shuffles’ visual collage app back in August to select users, Pinterest is now looking to make the app generally available, meaning that anybody wanting to create their own artistic collages from Pinterest-originated images would now be able to freely do so. Ever the growing trend, online, cross-platform collaboration is opening new doors for engagement and advertising, further expanding the viability of digital and social to reach new markets.

Shuffle and Deal Em’

Based on official examples and as a quick recap, Shuffles enable users to layer various photos of objects over each other in an artistic display, which can then be animated and even be set to music. Users then have the option to share their creations with other apps, with the product images linking back to Pinterest to encourage more discovery activity.

Speaking of images, users can either choose images sourced from Pinterest or take their own, with the platform’s systems then scanning Pinterest for similar objects. As noted, the app was made available only to select users, but despite the limited release, it still sparked a trend among younger audiences.

According to TechCrunch:

“The app grew in popularity with Gen Z users, who used the creative expression tool to make “aesthetic” collages, sometimes set to music and posted to TikTok, or shared privately with friends or the Shuffles community. This resulted in Shuffles surging to become the No. 1 Lifestyle app on the US App Store in August.”

While it has declined in popularity since, that initial surge could point to new opportunities, which would only help further promote and encourage Pinterest use, if there is broader interest. The images you can create are also interesting, while the linkage back to the actual products that people can buy is another variation of the artistic theme, which adds another aspect to the process.

The Wrap

It could be a good way for Pinterest to reach a broader audience and encourage more use. Pinterest itself has seen a resurgence as of late, as more users come to the app for product discovery, and the Shuffles process seems like a good complement to regular Pin engagement, in alignment with emerging usage trends. Though not exactly theme or mood-specific, you can still perhaps find a way to bolster your Pin activity through Shuffles this holiday season by sprinkling your Pinterest campaigns and promotions with a little bit of creative spice. You can now download the Shuffles app on both Apple and Google app stores.
