LinkedIn has just launched a new promotional campaign that aims to highlight the importance of diversity in the workplace, as well as in providing additional ways for people to better express themselves in their professional lives.

Based on the short video featured in their campaign overview, the main focus seems to be on gender pronouns, which LinkedIn added as an optional profile listing back in March. Earlier this year, LinkedIn also released an ‘Inclusive Language’ guide, highlighting an emerging trend towards adopting more inclusive and culturally and racially diverse approaches and strategies.

Campaigning For Commons

Ever since March, LinkedIn has mentioned that more than 6 million users have already added pronouns to their profile displays, marking an important step and significant progress in establishing a more open and inclusive workforce.

LinkedIn explains:

“Almost 50% of job seekers in the U.S. say they’re more likely to be their authentic self in how they show up in the workplace compared to a year ago. And we’ve seen these conversations happen around the world in our LinkedIn community, as our members reconsider their priorities and relationships with work and life, and reclaim that being professional really means creating inclusive spaces and culture to honor each other as who we are, so that we can bring our unique experiences and perspectives to the table.”

The new campaign itself is part of LinkedIn’s broader ‘What Does It Mean to be Professional’ push, which explores changes in the modern workforce and the resulting changes in expectations and opportunities. Check out this video trailer for a brief overview.

It’s an important initiative, highlighting these key shifts and ensuring that all employees feel safe to be their true and authentic selves. And with LinkedIn now playing a key role in connecting people to opportunities, thus maximizing professional representation, it’s equally important to ensure that it takes the lead role in maintaining parity and equal perceptions with regards to work. Inclusivity is something that has always been sought, pre and post pandemic; perhaps even more so in the latter.

The Wrap

With this in mind, it’s important to note that now is the time to start implementing these kinds of changes in our approach to professionalism and workplace relationships, in accordance with new and changing norms. LinkedIn, specifically, has shown great ability and leadership with respect to this front, and has undoubtedly secured its role as a key driver of inclusive trends, in relation to digital professional interaction.
