LinkedIn doesn’t seem to believe in taking breaks, at least not recently. LinkedIn’s adding another way to drive traffic externally, with a new link sticker that you can add to images in your LinkedIn posts, placing it wherever you like within the frame. Does it add appeal if we mention that you can also freely resize it?

While it doesn’t primarily focus on improving elements inside LinkedIn, the contribution to eternal traffic and potential referral might be significant if it prompted LinkedIn’s development team to push for the project to proceed. Though uncanny and not very common, the decision to go with link stickers instead of traditional embedded links does show that LinkedIn is also keeping in mind the latest user trends and behavioral shifts.

Sticky Links

As seen in these examples, shared by marketing analyst Lindsay Gamble, the link sticker is similar to the same that’s available on both Facebook and Instagram Stories, providing a simple way to add another referral link to your updates.

This could easily be a handy new element to experiment with, which lines up perfectly with LinkedIn’s rising engagement rates. It could end up being a valuable option for driving traffic from the LinkedIn Feed. The link sticker option will be available in your post creation tools, though it’s worth noting that you’ll only be able to add links via the mobile version of the app at this stage. All users, desktop or mobile, can interact with any link, however, so all of LinkedIn’s 850 million members will be able to tap through when they see them.

It’s a bit limited when it comes to available color options because there aren’t any at all, but you can at least add links to both video and image posts, allowing you to customize the text displayed based on the link. This small handicap when it comes to customizability is acceptable, since, well, remember that this is still only a sticker, and not even an animated one, too. Regardless, being tied to LinkedIn should already help out initial success rates. After all, being the world’s largest professional network does have its fair share of perks.

The Wrap

While it certainly isn’t anything new or even remotely large, an update is an update and should reflect that LinkedIn sees potential in the option, somewhere. It may be just a link sticker, but the main idea behind it is more grounded on marketing than anything else, so it may still end up being a major consideration

Of course, not everyone will appreciate large text links on-screen, but the upfront awareness could help drive more clicks, while simultaneously sparking new creative approaches to LinkedIn content. LinkedIn says that the new link sticker will be rolled out gradually. So while we may not have it yet, it’s coming and arriving soon.
