What else can we look forward to from Instagram before the year concludes? Well, this might be worth getting excited over – Instagram just added a new way to look back and celebrate your year with an ala-YouTube-style Reels recap for 2022. Instagram’s new dynamic and personalized ‘Year-In’ review is said to incorporate narration from various celebrities.

Reels Review

Based on official examples from Instagram, the platform is now prompting users to ‘Create Your 2022 Recap Reel’ in-stream, which, when activated, will take them through the process of adding posts and videos that they’ve already uploaded throughout the year into a dedicated Reels template.

As per Instagram:

“After choosing your template and narration, you’ll manually select your own content – videos, photos, and memories – from the past year to feature in your Reel and share with your followers.”

As an example, here’s how the template looks. You would essentially be inserting your clips and memories over a narration, which, in this case, happens to be from the popular creator Priah Ferguson.

In a way, while it’s a bit odd to have somebody else narrating your memories, on the engagement side of things, it does potentially help get your shares more views. After all, while you might have a rather soothing and enjoyable voice to listen to, the influencers chosen to narrate these templates are pretty big, including the likes of Bad Bunny, Badshah, and DJ Khaled. In case you haven’t noticed, which you probably did, throughout the year, most major promotional campaigns included big celebrity endorsements. While it’d be rather expensive to set up individual endorsement deals with extremely popular stars, Instagram’s option allows you to do the same for practically free, minus the range of course – not all of your favorite celebrities.

Again, beyond the fact that stars would be narrating your story, celebratory posts are and will likely continue to be popular, with the in-Feed prompts helping to get more people aware of the option. In turn, that should help get more people tapping through, even if just for the looks.

The Wrap

Though this mainly caters to individual users, it can also help brands prompt their audiences to share their stories for the year, celebrating their customers, wins, and achievements for 2022. It’s a rather nice and mainly positive update that aims to contribute to more interaction and engagement through building relationships. Instagram’s 2022 recap templates will be available globally for several weeks into 2023. You can check in on uploaded recaps in your profile’s Reels tab.
