Who would’ve guessed that Instagram could indeed be a classroom? While we don’t mean class in the traditional sense, Instagram is apparently viable enough of a space to teach people new concepts and skills. Any social platform is, actually – you just have to know how their critical elements work, which, in Instagram’s case, is pretty much the same as TikTok’s. But we digress. Heading back to the topic, Instagram creator Mario Trotta, who’s better known by his handle/alias ‘The Monk’, recently uploaded a quick and simple 6-trick way to improve your on-app networking strategies.

Monkish Meditations

Mario does have a point – networking is the key to many industries. The more people you know and form connections with, the more opportunities you’ll have to earn. With that, are you ready for The Monk’s knowledge?

#1 Build Relationships First

Adopt a ‘Give First’ principle. Remember, it’s about your customers and what you can do for them, not the other way around. You can do this simply by asking “How Can I Help You?”

#2 Add Value to The Network

Your network would do better connecting with other networks. The same goes for helping others do the same. Aim to make networks bigger.

#3 Change Your Perspective on Networking

Be interested in learning about others. Be a listener. Seek out people’s problems and offer them solutions.

#4 Touch Base Regularly

Keep in touch with as many of your customers as you can, especially the loyal ones. This keeps you updated with the many happenings in their lives, allowing you to be there in times of victories and defeats, improving brand relatability and trust throughout.

#5 Understand The Why

Stop thinking transactionally and start building relationships by getting to know the reason behind why people do what they do.

#6 Add Value to The Network

Lastly, always aim to be authentic. People seek out more authenticity online nowadays and showing them that you’re just a person, too, and a couple of your personal ‘quirks’ makes you way more relatable, and generally more likable as well.

The Wrap

Again, who would’ve thought that Instagram could actually facilitate such condensed yet substantial learning, right? There are probably less than 500 words in The Monk’s post, but it very much sums up the gist of what you can do to reorient your notion of networking, thus being able to use it to your advantage.
