Google is rolling out some new tools to help businesses maximize their sales potential during the holiday season. Part of the new holiday Google display options includes small business tags, generative AI for product images, and extra knowledge panels. Note that while Google rarely introduces major updates compared to other platforms, they often include plenty of quality-of-life elements.

Googling The Season

We will start with the small business tags. The new holiday Google display options will allow SMBs to indicate their status within the Merchant Center. That will see these businesses tagged appropriately when their listings appear in Google Search and Maps. From official examples, SMBs will have a tag indicating that they are a small business, helping drive more attention.

True enough, Google says that 84% of people are eager to support small, local businesses. The new tags could help point them in the right direction. Google will automatically add the small business attribute to select listings based on specific prompts and factors. To add to that, Google is also partnering with Etsy to include eligible sellers.

Theoretically, larger businesses can also add the tag, but the risk would be angering Google, thus suffering penalties. Click here to find out whether or not your business qualifies for the new labels.

On another front, Google is making its AI Product Studio tools more accessible, providing new ways to generate more product images. The Product Studio leverages generative AI to supplement your overall creative capacity, which can prove handy for the holidays. Seasonal background photos from Google? Yes! The new tools will be available to all Merchant Center Next users in the U.S. starting this week.

Lastly, Google is also updating its Knowledged Panel listings to include more information about retailers, including current deals, shipping, and returns. New panel listings also include customer service information, ratings, and reviews. That could be another way to raise awareness of relevant offers, potentially driving more site traffic. In addition, the Knowledge Panel will be shown to more merchants across Google’s apps. Knowledge Panel information will be based on Merchant Center data as well as other info from across the web.

The Wrap

These are some handy seasonal updates, with the new holiday Google Display options potentially impacting your approach. With Google unlikely to be outperformed as the starting point for the majority of web searches, it is worth updating your info. Whenever and wherever possible, try to tap into these new opportunities to give yourself a competitive edge.
