Here’s some news regarding Twitter’s Professional Profiles; they’re finally opening it up to all businesses! Since the announcement of their professional profiles redesign in April of this year, online marketers and entrepreneurs were excited at the prospect of being able to finally polish their Twitter profiles, allowing for a better overall presence and engagement on the platform. With applications now open, new options are made available to brands and creators.

To begin, interested applicants must sign up via this form. The new professional profiles will display business information on the profile page and feature the option to add a ‘Shop’ or ‘Newsletter’ module. It’s still a work in progress, but hopefully, it’s one that only gets better with time.

And we quote Twitter:

“We know people come to Twitter to interact with brands and engage in conversations about products and services. All this demand gives us confidence in the power of combining real-time conversation with enhanced features for professionals aimed at better controlling and enhancing their identity on Twitter.”

While it’s certainly a good opportunity for brands to establish pioneer professional profiles, do take care. Once the ‘About’ info has been submitted, we’re afraid that the only way to change it is to resubmit the entire application.

Business Viability

Having a For Business domain within the same platform but not having the appropriate elements to ensure effective function would be very laughable. Luckily, such was not Twitter’s case. Following months of careful testing with select brands, professional profiles now offer businesses a new display along with a suite of exclusive tools.

Twitter defines professional profiles as:

“…a gateway to a wide range of professional tools not available to non-professionals, including our Twitter Ads, Quick Promote, Advanced Profile features, and our future efforts around shopping.”

With the platform looking more into eCommerce, that last sentence starts to make more sense. Since monetization seems to be a persistent theme across platforms, Twitter’s decision to provide more ways for brands to sell and sell better might propel it ahead of the competition.

For now, there are only three professional profile modules. Though limited, their addition already improves connection and contributes to Twitter’s analytics prowess which, in turn, helps brands out because of the ability to observe more trends and get more insights.

The Wrap

What implications professional profiles might have is still uncertain. Right now, it’s simply too early to tell how truly effective (or ineffective) they can be. Will Twitter change its approach to encourage more sign-ups, as Facebook did with its enterprise pages? Perhaps they’ll opt to make it compulsory to create professional profiles that feel more exclusive and premium?

Only time will tell. What we can suggest is that you check it out at the very least. Sure, an application may be a bit clunky right now, but clunky is the perfect state if you plan on conducting tests.
