Twitter is currently testing out more new additions to TweetDeck, its dedicated ‘Columns’ display dashboard, which was designed to make column creation easier and more intuitive, allowing for a greater degree of versatility within the app.

TweetDeck was originally an independent app, which was later acquired by Twitter, then fully integrated into its systems and interface, and officially launched as its separate dashboard app in 2008. Since then, TweetDeck has been ranked as one of the most popular clients of the platform, by percentage of Tweets posted, along with its official web client and respective OS apps.

All Hands on Deck!

If you finish the video attached to their official Tweet, you can see that the new process is available to TweetDeck users from the preview pool, while also incorporating the platform’s column creation tools into the main display, versus tapping the ’+’ symbol within the left-hand control space. What seems to be emphasized here is testing for the TweetDeck’s optimal placement within the overall creation process.

Column options have also been expanded, with several new functions added to the creation tools list. More so, ‘Search’ columns were also made easier to generate. As per Twitter:

“It’s easier to create a search column that shows *exactly* what you want to see right off the bat. By clicking “Add column”, then “Search”, you’ll have access to advanced search filters while creating your column.”

Lastly, Twitter’s also expanding its List Discovery options within column tools, providing another way to more conveniently tap into the value of user-created Lists. Lists in themselves also help with the overall Twitter content discovery process by providing users with access to personalized, highly relevant Tweet Feeds and streams.

These are certainly some useful updates that provide added utility and introduce more ways on how you maximize the TweetDeck process. The dashboard is especially valuable for Tweet monitoring, making it that much easier to track pertinent and specific Tweet mentions using keywords and list-based columns, all in one place. Such benefits are only made more viable thanks to improved functionality and updated parameters.

The Wrap

Though it’s a much-welcomed update, the biggest trade-off, at least for now, has to be the option’s limited availability. TweetDeck is currently only available in ‘Preview Mode’, which is only available via an invite from Twitter, and only issued to select users in the U.S, Canada, and Australia. A temporary ‘bypass’, if you just want to check it out, is available by editing the HTML code on the website.

That being said, Twitter has been improving TweetDeck over the past year and it doesn’t look long now before it finally makes it to the main app. These new additions only stand to further hasten that process. If you’re excited, you can at least check these tools out now – lucky test users can even take them for a spin in the app.
