If there’s one thing that TikTok has left a mark on history, it’s its ‘For You’ Feed. TikTok’s highly intuitive algorithms and innate dynamism in facilitating participation have crowned the app as the modern home of entertainment. Simply put, TikTok has evolved into a space where all sorts of interactions happen. TikTok has quietly added new topic Feeds to its homepage alongside its current ‘Following’ and previously mentioned ‘For You’ Feeds.

Wholly Dedicated

Reports say that some users are now seeing new video Feeds dedicated to ‘Sports’, ‘Fashion’, ‘Gaming’, and ‘Food’. Swiping between the Feeds shows you content for each category without having to specially search for it. With this ‘redesign’, TikTok makes it appear as though it’s looking to make it easier for people to find exactly what sort of content they either want to watch or stay up to date with.

TikTok’s current Following and For You Feeds aren’t organized, instead showing you a range of different types of content within minutes. For example, you could come across a funny animal video, then see a video after it about some sad story. So, while TikTok’s algorithm does well in showing people more of what they like, it also is, apparently, very disorganized; highly contrasting, but it is what it is. With these new categories, you can select the type of content you want to see at that moment.

If you’re looking for fashion inspiration, you can look through the Fashion Feed. If you’re looking for dinner ideas, you can browse through the Food Feed. Of course, you can always just search for these things within the app, but the new Feeds offer a seamless way to watch specific content types.

The change could be a welcome addition for users who want more organization within the app, along with the ability to watch what they’re in the mood for. On the other hand, some users may not be fond of the change, as it somewhat clutters the app’s homepage, which already features many other things. Such was the dilemma Instagram faced when its UI became overcrowded with all sorts of features and buttons.

The Wrap

With this latest update, TikTok is likely hoping to reach a more defined audience with the new categories. It could also be a way for the app to better align itself with competitors. For example, YouTube has had topic categories at the top of its homepage for quite some time now, allowing users to find content they’re particularly interested in, regardless of the category.

It’s currently unknown if TikTok plans to stick with just these four categories or if it’ll add more in the future. It wouldn’t be surprising if TikTok does decide to add more categories for things like books and movies. It also makes sense if TikTok decides to go in this direction given its current moniker as the ‘Entertainment Central’.
