We all know how impactful this pandemic has been. Over the last two years, there have been several significant shifts and changes in how we live and work – the latter, in particular, holds a fairly decent number of implications with regards to the future of our professional careers.

The immediate impact was quite obvious – the lockdowns forced people to work from home, which did open our eyes to new opportunities in maintaining a better work/life balance. Besides, no longer needing to go on-site meant doing away with long, tiring commutes, relocation woes, and helped massively cut back on spending for food.

The longer-term shifts could be even more significant. Jobseeker expectations have also changed and more people are re-assessing their motivations and drives to work, as well as their methods.

Into Gear 2

LinkedIn notes that the changes are already big as it explores its new ‘Great Reshuffle’ report. As LinkedIn puts it:

“Our most recent data showed a 54% increase in the number of global members who changed jobs year-over-year – talent is leaving at an unprecedented rate for greener pastures. Companies that don’t prioritize their needs face being left behind.”

To provide more insight, LinkedIn is publishing a new series of reports that look at the latest shifts. You can keep up-to-date with full reports and insights here. Meanwhile, LinkedIn also published a new infographic overview on the latest key job shifts. Even the infographic is densely packed with information, which says a thing or two about just how impactful COVID has been and how the last two years have been in a near-constant flux of change.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Global employee happiness declined about 3.5% from Oct. 2020 to Oct. 2021.

  • Around a 37% growth in LinkedIn members YoY.

  • 31% Growth in members in marketing changing jobs YoY.

  • Nearly 618k marketing departures in 2021.

  • A significant change in focus on Social Media Marketing at 102%, followed by Instagram marketing at 96%.

  • Marketers are in-demand. More than 1.3 million marketing jobs were posted, experiencing roughly 374% growth in marketing jobs in 2021.

  • Employees who feel cared for at work are, at the very least, three times as likely to be happy and recommend working for their company.

  • Professionals are prioritizing work/life balance higher than before, weighing in at nearly 63%

  • Now, nearly 87% of employees want to remain remote, with nearly 65% prioritizing remote work in their job search.

The Wrap

This isn’t even everything; there is a lot more information that you can check out by heading to the full infographic and report itself. The main thing here is how LinkedIn’s report emphasizes numerous major changes within the last two years, signifying a sort of re-focus from the standard work model to more hybrid and remote work models. From what we’ve been able to see so far, we can conclude that this shift also affects work-related behavior and motivations. There’s honestly a lot to take in, but only if you choose to approach things empirically. For employers, the report holds a metric ton of useful insights to help refine and better optimize their approach.
