TikTok just announced a range of new programming for Arab Heritage Month, celebrating Arab culture through various short clips, while simultaneously showcasing some of the best creators within the #ArabTikTokcommunity.

As TikTok explains:

“For National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM), we’re proud to shine a light on the creators and businesses who uplift and champion the Arab community every day on TikTok, and within their local neighborhoods.”

TikTok Emirates

This new initiative will see TikTok host a range of dedicated live streams throughout April, including the participation of various fashion, music, and entertainment creators. TikTok’s also looking to highlight Arab-owned small businesses with a special #ArabTikTok SMB video series that’s scheduled to also run throughout the month.

Lastly, TikTok’s also putting a spotlight on Arab music with the help of R&B singer-songwriter Ilham and award-winning singer-songwriter Najwa Karam. Both artists will be highlighting tracks on the Sounds page.

Users will be able to follow using the #ArabTikTok Hashtag. At the same time, TikTok will also be launching the #ArabTikTok content hub, helping users stay up to date with the latest news. On this note, TikTok has been gaining traction in the Middle East, with usage in Saudi and the UAE rising especially fast. Since TikTok has been hitting certain walls in other Western regions, focusing instead on growing regions does sound like a logical decision.

There are around 9.84 million total social media users in the UAE, with those belonging to TikTok steadily climbing up to 4.21 million actives. Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, TikTok actually has more users than Facebook overall. It’s both refreshing and highly opportune, again highlighting where and how TikTok can be used and maximized.

The Wrap

As TikTok seeks to maximize its opportunities and facilitate broader connection and discovery, it does make sense for TikTok to highlight more regional events like this, and to showcase different cultures and trends, which is essentially an homage to a couple of its core elements.

Moreover, another thing highlighted here is the relevance of duly preparing for holidays and occasions, with TikTok’s example illustrating how even a lesser-known holiday can still introduce significant growth.
