For the new year, Facebook decided to start things off by adding a couple of new elements to its Creator Studio, including a Stories preview option for video uploads, as well as a new way you can preview how your content looks in-stream. As the title suggests, these auditions look to be very creator-focused indeed, much to the credit of Creator Studio, so good job Facebook.

Sandbox Mode

Of the bunch, the main addition seems to be Stories highlight clips for video uploads, which takes a 20-second preview segment from your full video to post as a Facebook and/or Instagram Story. The unmatched Matt Navarra shared a snapshot of what the new prompt looks like. The new option enables you to ‘share a video highlight clip to your story’, potentially driving higher views for your full video.

From what we know so far, the process is fairly basic – Creator Studio will automatically highlight a preview segment from your video. You can then move this segment bar around, however, you won’t be able to actually edit or create your own segments. With this limitation, you can only choose a segment from your video to use as a preview.

It could be a rather useful way to raise more awareness about the videos you upload and isn’t overly intrusive as a Stories option, with short, teaser-like clips leading to full-length videos, somewhat adding to the full viewing experience.

What’s interesting to note is that Facebook looks to encourage this type of Stories use, given that Instagram has repeatedly sought to stop people from re-sharing posts to Stories, including videos, allegedly due to “user complaints”. Well, perhaps there will be certain leeways in this case since Instagram is owned by Facebook. This also looks very similar to sharing feed posts as Stories, but perhaps it’s Facebook’s way of driving more engagement towards video content consumption.

Another addition to the Creator Studio is a timeline view of your published Page posts. The new option looks to provide users with more transparency as to how their posts would appear within feeds, which does add another element to your Page management options. In this regard, Creator Studio remains to be a key posting tool, especially for third-party platforms due to its capacity to show you exactly how your Facebook and Instagram posts will look in-stream. The new additions enable enhanced editing and customization options.

The Wrap

With these updates, Facebook’s Creator Studio will become an even more important tool for many social media managers, especially those who are particular about posting videos. Perhaps learning from their opportunities throughout the years, it’s good to finally see Meta adding viable, new, and innovative options to their tools in order to improve both page management and user experience.

Though not game-changing or major, these new options do provide more ways on how you can go about uploading content, which is sure to play out well for Facebook as the year progresses, IF they can successfully follow through.
