When Twitter released Fleets, it’s own take on Stories, it wasn’t long before the new feature sank into obscurity. Apart from the announcement that it was shutting Fleets down back in July, Twitter also noted that it would be looking to incorporate Fleets elements in other areas. Meanwhile, Twitter has already improved a couple of its visual elements.

Twitter is perhaps now taking the next steps by testing a new ‘Quote Tweet With Reaction’ option. The new option would enable users to capture a response to a Tweet using the full-screen camera mode.

Picture-Perfect Tweeting

Shared by none other than the great Alessandro Paluzzi himself, the new option, which is yet to make it to live testing, would provide an alternative in facilitating direct, visual engagement via Tweets – it lets you attach the original Tweet as ‘Sticker’ to your captured image or video. It gives you more ways to respond, outside the traditional text option.

Twitter’s also testing an updated text editor option, which would enable users to add more colors and visuals to your comments. Again, the focus here seems to be more on the visual side, or at least how to deliver more visual and engaging responses. This, along with it now displaying images at full-size in feeds, provide Twitter with a great way to boost engagement and interaction.

This larger visual format also lines up well with Twitter’s updated Explore tab, which is currently in live testing, Enabling users to easily scroll full-screen in order to catch up on the latest posts and updates. This clearly TikTok-inspired UI is Twitter’s attempt to align with evolving social media usage trends. Fleets also featured a similar full-screen display, but might have lacked certain nuances in order to better capture attention. Perhaps with these new options, Twitter might have a better time in dynamically improving Tweet creative, while simultaneously generating more engagement and response.

No doubt that Twitter would love to work this out, especially if you consider the path it has taken. which is 315 million active users by 2023. This counts also happens to be the actual growth that the platform outlined  back in Feb., as part of its Analysts Day presentation. Since then, the company has undergone some rather big changes, with new CEO Parag Agrawal committing to achieve previously set targets, including a massive revenue boost.

The Wrap

As it stands, despite Agrawal having to pick up a lot from whatever Dorsey left behind, Twitter was still able to come up with several significant developments throughout the year, including the likes of ‘Professional Profiles’‘Twitter Spaces’, and ‘Twitter Blue’. All of these updates point to one thing, and that’s Twitter’s increased focus on development.

Perhaps these new Tweet options mark the next big push for the company, one that will see it move towards more visual engagement, putting a bigger focus on videos this coming 2022.
