We’ve not heard from Clubhouse lately, so this news helps break the common streak of only major platform updates and quickly shines the spotlight on newer, up-and-coming players. Initially announcing it back in September, Clubhouse is finally launching its ‘Replays’ feature, which provides another way to utilize Clubhouse chats and get more value from your audio sessions. Check out Clubhouse’s official Tweet.

Clubhouse explains:

“Replays are an optional feature that creators can choose to toggle on or off for any public room. When Replays are enabled, anyone on Clubhouse can replay the entire experience whenever they like. They’ll get to see the same elements of a live room like Leave Quietly, and watch the dynamic of the stage and audience shift and evolve throughout the discussion, including PTRs, mic taps, and all the special moments that only happen here.”

Listen Closely

Ephemeral audio played somewhat of a key role in the format’s rise earlier this year and, especially with all of Twitter’s development towards Spaces, specifically with its latest release of Spaces Recordings, the value in being able to share even just audio broadcasts can’t be denied. Broadcast re-sharing is, believe it or not, a viable way to gain more traction and influence.

Taking from Twitter’s example:

“Room creators will have the ability to download the audio so they can edit it and use it wherever they want – as a podcast, a clip on YouTube, an Instagram story, a TikTok video, an embed in their article or newsletter, or anywhere else. The replay will also be discoverable within Clubhouse – from club pages, speakers’ profiles (unless they choose to hide it), search (starting next week), and more.”

These serve as significant discovery elements, which can definitely help Clubhouse creators maximize and get more from their efforts.

From the excerpt above, we can see that Clubhouse is also adding a handy feature that allows users to basically ‘skip’ to the next speaker within a replay (provided there are multiple speakers). This provides listeners with more control, allowing them to use audio recognition to mark points where speakers change. While there’s always the risk of system errors, thus leading to certain missed elements, it does make up for this by providing you with additional playback filtering options, leading to a more relevant and customized experience. Besides, in the event that the system does mess up, you can always rewind and go through skipped segments normally, hence ‘Replays’. Clever.

Lastly, Clubhouse is also adding cumulative counts of everyone that has tuned into your chat, including those that yuned in via the Replay option. This’ll definitely provide creators with more insight for their planning and pitching to potential partners. Clubhouse affirms that additional analytics tools will be coming over the next couple of months.

The Wrap

It’s an important update for Clubhouse, especially now when you consider that it has lost its early momentum and hype. Despite slow progress, it at least continues to gain users from around the world. The added capacity to get more insights from broadcasts will definitely help Clubhouse attract and retain creators as it slowly makes its format and content format more relevant and audience-based; like an audio-only TikTok, which honestly sounds pretty interesting.
