You might have heard, but Snapchat has also delved into the world of paid subscriptions by introducing its own exclusive and expanded access option: Snapchat+. Snapchat+ grants users  access to a few extra features that allow them to further deck out and customize their profiles to better resonate with their target audience, while they don’t immediately justify the need to pay, their improved advertising capacity, as opposed to Snap’s defaults, is certainly something to consider, especially if you mean to focus on Snapchat this 2023.

Spruce Up Those Frames

One of the things that users can do on Snapchat+ is to change how the recording frame looks, which appears on the Snap Cam display as users record videos. Though not necessarily pivotal, a quick how-to guide from Adweek.com walks us through how we can change the recording frame on mobile.

Note: These steps were done on iOS, but the Android process shouldn’t be that different.

  1. First head to your Snapchat profile, then click the gear icon that should be on the upper-right hand corner.

  2. A menu should appear that lists the various account options you can access. Select ‘Snapchat+’.

  3. Under Snapchat+, select ‘App Theme’.

  4. Then select ‘Recording Frame’.

  5. Tap one of the available options to select and enable it. You can scroll down to view all available options.

  6. Tap anywhere outside of the Recording Frame window to close it.

And that’s it, you’ve successfully changed the appearance of the Recording Frame! Don’t expect there to be lots of options just yet as the option is still rather new. Over time, new frames should be added, as well as the capacity – hopefully – to create custom frames.

The Wrap

Again, it’s not a big update; functionally, it only really adds to Snapchat+, so non-subscribers don’t really get anything out of it, save the idea to sign up for Snapchat+ so they can further personalize their accounts. However, if you look at it from a branding perspective or through a creator’s lens, then you’ll start seeing the relative benefit of the option. Having a recording frame that’s distinct from the rest sets you apart, offering a sense of exclusivity and allowing you to better impart your brand onto viewers. It’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s at least something that helps add validation to Snap’s subscription offer.
